The Association of Institutes was formed on 11 May 1930 (Between 11 December 1924 and 1930 it was functioning as the Section for Natural and Mathematical Sciences) by Communist Academy (Sekciya estestvennykh i tochnykh nauk Kommunisticheskoi akademii).
